“Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest“ Matthew 11:28
The question is:
Who is a Widow?
A Widow is a woman who has lost her husband and has not re married.
The first reaction or feeling any normal human being has on hearing a woman being referred to as a widow is a feeling of pity, a sorrowful feeling especially if the woman is young. However, God says He is the husband of the widow. Isaiah 54:5. This statement is consoling for a young widow with children.
It is pertinent to understand that God created us and placed us in this world with the sole purpose of serving Him thereby fulfilling our destinies. We are primarily God’s responsibility.
Isaiah 46: 3-4“(3) Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb;(4) and even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you”
However for God’s provision to manifest in our lives we need to stay within the ambit He created for us. God has the blueprint and the master plan for our lives, the earlier we understand and accept this fact the better this world will be for us.
It is worthy to note that it is not the will of God for a partner in marriage to pass away untimely. In Psalm 91:16, God said
“With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation“In Isaiah 65:20 ” There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days; for A CHILD shall die an hundred years old…“
In order to have a better understanding of this scripture, we need to find out who a child is.
A child is a minor, a young person, someone below puberty, someone you still have to make decisions for.
In John 10:10, the Word of God says “The thief cometh not but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy…“
Anything that dispossess you of your valuable is a thief and a thief is your enemy. A thief usually attack its victim when they are vulnerable in order to dispossess them of things that make life comfortable for them. In 1 Peter 5:8, we are made to understand that the devil is the enemy.
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”Even a child is scheduled to die at 100!
In Genesis 6:3, God said
” My Spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh, yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years”
From the above scriptures it is unequivocally clear that God is not behind untimely death!
Jesus said in
Matthew 13:38 “An enemy has done this”
A widow should be careful not to feel guilty at the loss of her husband! You might think “oh! if only I had prayed more… if only I had fasted more… if only…if only…” Listen, you are not His God therefore you can not claim to know everything that is going on. In fact, you can not claim to know everything going on in and around him irrespective of the closeness you share.
Life is spiritual.
Proverbs 23:7 : “For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.”
Luke 16:16 ” The law and the prophets were until John:since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it”
Therefore, everyone is expected to work out his salvation with fear and trembling. Philippians 2:12
In Hebrews 10:38 “Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.”
The above argument does not presuppose that a woman should not do everything in her capacity to help preserve her husband’s life. If after you have done all you know how to do and he still passes away.
The Bible says in I John 3:20“For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.”
Widowhood is a precarious stage in a woman’s life especially if she has children, you should not attempt to add the burden of guilt to your current situation, guilt often leads to bitterness and bitterness can lead to a broken spirit.
Proverbs 18:14“The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?”
A broken spirit will open doors to all manner of evil, sickness, depression and all negative things you can think of, that will not be your portion in the name of Jesus!
When a male partner in a relationship passes away, God in line with His Word steps into the situation and takes over the responsibility of the Widow if she allows Him…
God makes a bold declaration to the Widow in Isaiah 54:4-5
“Fear not; thou shall not be ashamed; neither be thou confounded;for thou shall not be put to shame; for thou shall forget the shame of thy youth, and shall not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more. (5) For thy maker is thine husband; the LORD of Host is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called”
Looking closely at the above scripture, we will discover that God points outs 3 differents things, that he said he will deliver the widow from.
At the June 2019 edition of El Shaddai Heritage, we will analyse these 3 things and discover how God has designed to take over the responsibility of the Widow.
